The Phillips 66 Limited Humber Refinery has an ambition to build a thriving, lower carbon business platform by leveraging existing capabilities and advancing investments in new energy technologies. Today, the refinery produces lower carbon road fuels and is the UK’s only refinery to supply sustainable aviation fuel at scale. Additionally, the refinery is Europe’s only producer of specialty graphite coke, a critical mineral used in lithium-ion batteries. As part of the transition to The Refinery of the Future, the refinery is also exploring carbon capture and hydrogen refuelling.

Humber Freeport: A global gateway for international trade and investment

Humber is centred around the UK’s busiest ports complex. The four major ports of Hull, Goole, Immingham and Grimsby handle around 17 per cent of the nation’s trade and play a vital strategic role for the UK as a global trading gateway. Freeport status is injecting investment into Humber, providing a catalyst for job growth, regeneration, decarbonisation and innovation.

With global investment opportunities in sectors including green energy, chemicals, logistics, advanced manufacturing and technology, Humber Freeport is driving economic transformation in support of the UK's net-zero agenda.

Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) specialises in the management and disposal of radioactive waste produced by nuclear technologies in the UK. Forming part of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) group, which is the non-departmental public body responsible for the clean-up of historical nuclear sites, NWS’s goal is to ensure all categories of the UK’s radioactive waste are managed safely and securely through innovative and sustainable approaches to better protect people and the environment, both now and for the future.

Nordic Energy is an organisation of experts actively assisting in the practical design, construction, installation and operation of Net Zero Solutions including: district heating and cooling, renewable electricity generation, EfW, waste heat recovery, mine and geothermal energy, building efficiency and energy storage.

The role of Nordic Energy is to assist project teams secure the swift implementation of high performing, reliable and profitable energy installations while reducing total cost of ownership and risks.

A wider objective is to assist in optimising the broad range of commercial, social, environmental and political benefits of investments in sustainable energy.

First Bus is a leader in sustainable mobility and at the forefront of developments to create greener public transport in the UK. In 2024, our York depot is now the first in Yorkshire to run its fleet only with electric charging. And at our Bramley depot on the outskirts of Leeds, half its fleet are zero emission buses. This transformation of our business in the North region over the past 12 months has been made possible by successful working partnerships with local authorities to secure government funding together with investment of over £37m by First Bus to introduce 132 new electric buses to our Yorkshire fleet. This supports the national strategy of First Bus to have a zero-carbon fleet by 2035.

Equinor is the largest single supplier of energy to the UK, where it has operated for more than 50 years. It provides 25% of the UK’s gas requirements – enough to heat eight million British homes every day.

The company has bold ambitions to be a net zero business by 2050, with half of its capital expenditure pledged to be invested in low carbon and renewables projects by 2030. The north of England is well placed for such investment opportunities, particularly regions such as the Humber and Teesside, due to their high concentration of energy emitting industries, natural geology, and historical role as the UK’s powerhouse.
