Retailer of the Year Award

This award will recognise any retailer, large or small, independent or national, that is making a big noise in the retail world! Branches of national companies should enter as a store. The judges will be looking for evidence of what sets a retailer apart from its competition, either in terms of its achievements, best practice, or success. Examples of evidence to support the application can include sales performance, internal awards, team development, achievement of key performance indicators and customer feedback.

Restaurant/Pub of the Year Award

This award will recognise the business that puts their restaurant/Pub in the forefront of their industry for its outstanding service, cuisine and congenial surroundings. The judges will be looking for evidence of excellence in service and presentation, backed by testimonials (judges will accept evidence from review sites such as TripAdvisor), evidence of how the business caters for people with different/special dietary requirements, and any unique or outstanding elements of the business.

 

Visitor Attraction/Tourism of the Year Award

This award will recognise any business that puts the area on the map as a wonderful place to live and visit. The judges will be looking for evidence of the contribution of the venue in attracting visitors to the area, as well as catering for local people, and its excellence within the leisure industry. Examples of evidence to support the application can include footfall information, geographic catchment of customer base, visitor number growth, awards won and customer feedback.

Small Business of the Year Award

To recognise outstanding performance by a company with a workforce of 1-49 staff who is excelling in their field. In no more than 1000 words, entrants must demonstrate: Evidence of clear strategy and vision, aligned with financial and/or team growth. How you have overcome challenges and turned difficult situations around. Excellence in your field and commitment to customer service. Investment in training and performance. Innovative or effective marketing.

Large Business of the Year Award

To recognise outstanding performance by a company with a workforce of 250+ staff who is excelling in their field. In no more than 1000 words, entrants must demonstrate: Evidence of clear strategy and vision, aligned with financial and/or team growth. How you have overcome challenges and turned difficult situations around. Excellence in your field and commitment to customer service. Investment in training and performance. Innovative or effective marketing.

New Business of the Year Award

This award is open to start-up businesses operating for under two years. In no more than 1000 words, please provide: An overview of why the business launched and the gap in the market at that time. Evidence of your business success and progress to date. How your business/service/product compares to other start-ups, particularly those in your business sector. Vision and plans for future growth.

 

Sustainable Business of the Year Award

This award will be presented to a business that puts sustainability and the environment at the heart of its business. In no more than 1000 words, describe your company’s commitment to: Ensuring its environmental impact is kept to an absolute minimum, for example through recycling, carbon offset, water conservation or sustainable energy schemes. Sustainability achievements in the last 12 months. How you are helping to drive wider progress in the green economy. Demonstrate your business growth and financial success whilst delivering social and environmental benefit.

 

Community Champion of the Year Award

This award celebrates an individual who has made a significant contribution to the community. In up to 650 words, please explain why this person stands out above others, the positive impact they have on the people, the place and the businesses that operate there. This award recognises, encourages and  rewards that person who is truly making a difference within their community.

 

Sports Initiative Award

In this award we are recognising the unsung sporting heroes whose teamwork and determination have kept things going. Whether this is an individual or team, in up to 650 words, please describe the sport they are connected to, the impact they have had on others in the team or their sporting peers, how they motivate and support others and ways in which they have improved the overall engagement in their chosen sport.

 

Unsung Hero Award

This award will be awarded to an individual who deserves recognition for their work in the community. He or she could be a charity or community worker, a teacher, a group leader or anyone who sums up the term ‘unsung hero.’

 

 

Child of Courage Award

This award will go to a child (age 14 and under) who has shown courage in the face of adversity, such dealing with an illness or battling through a traumatic experience. In up to 650 words, please describe how they have demonstrated an exceptional act of bravery and shown great character or fortitude. Testimonial can be included to support this entry.

Fundraiser of the Year Award

Charities and CICs will always need support to help raise vital funds for their cause. This award is to recognise those fundraisers who are employed by a charity or CIC. In up to 650 words, the judges would like to understand how this person remains motivated and inspired, even during difficult times, new ideas they have developed and implemented and the results these have had for the charity in raising awareness and/or funds. The winner will clearly be dedicated to the cause, and passionate about the work they do to help others.

Lifetime Achievement Award

A person who has been active in the business community for 25 years or above. Has shown outstanding leadership characteristics throughout their career and has inspired and developed others to achieve similar success. Has achieved business excellence, evidenced through their business’s profitability, competitive advantage, innovation, flexibility and customer service. Has demonstrated a strong connection to the economy and communities of the Morecambe and Lancaster area.

 

Ambassador Award

This award is the editors chosen award and will be announced on the night.
