I served 18 years as a combat infantry soldier in the Grenadier Guards having served in London, Northern Ireland, Germany, Cyprus, Belize, Canada and and Operation Desert Storm in the Gulf War.
I have owned various businesses since leaving the armed forces, including time as a business consultant and a general manager of a technology company, a recruitment agency and am now a
property developer.
As the Chairman of Newark Business Club, I took its membership from 70 with the average attendance of 30 to over 550 with the average attendance of over 120. I was also instrumental in
giving the club some structure and setting up the retail group and helped set up the first ever Newark Business Awards.
Politically I was elected in 2005 and have held various positions from Chairman of the Health Scrutiny Committee to the Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Asset Management and I am also the Armed Forces Champion at Nottinghamshire County Council.
In my spare time I volunteer on four charities, The Newark Patriotic Fund a charity supporting veterans and their families, BNA Charitable Trust this is a funding charity, Newark Amateur Boxing
Club helping to take kids off the streets giving the purpose and Long Bennington Rotary. I have a partner Emily who’s got two boys one 14 and the other 12. I have two dogs Eric and Lucy and am
currently housing a family of three refugees from the Ukraine.
My career began with an Advanced Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering with British Coal over 35 years ago. 14 years in coal mining saw a career path of apprentice, electrician, supervisor, shift engineer and through to colliery engineer.
In 1994 I took up the position of Technical Director at Lindhurst Engineering progressing to Managing Director in 2000, a position I still currently hold.
During my time at Lindhurst I have overseen the growth of the business (a 5 fold increase in turnover between 1999 and 2008) and diversification from servicing the coal mining sector to multiple market sectors (construction, utilities, power generation, transport and low carbon)
My own personal growth journey ignited my interest in coaching and mentoring as the result of the positive experience I have had being coached and mentored. In 2014 my experience as a business leader saw me receive requests to coach other SME business leaders and was the start of my career as a coach.
