Judges

The selection process for the awards involves an impartial panel of industry experts who generously volunteer their time to evaluate submissions. These individuals are chosen for their expertise and experience.

Judges review entries, ensuring a fair and unbiased evaluation. In cases where judges have conflicts of interest within specific categories, they abstain from participating in the assessment of those particular entries.

Upon the submission deadline, judges receive all entries in a uniform format, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations. Each entry is then scored by the judges based on the defined criteria for each category.

Judges meet to discuss their assessments and collectively reach a final decision on a single day, solely based on the content provided in the written entries.

It is crucial to note that the entire judging process is conducted confidentially, and all decisions reached during this process are considered final.

Kate Martin

Executive Director - Sheffield City Council

Kate Martin is currently Executive Director of City Futures Portfolio at Sheffield City Council. She previously held the position of Executive Director of Place at Southampton City Council, Director of City Assets and Housing, and Director of Growth & Property Management.
Kate, who grew up and studied in Sheffield, is an experienced Executive Director of Place and Growth, and has successfully supported Local Government for over 20-years, including at Director level for the City of Wolverhampton, London Borough of Camden, London Borough of Brent Councils and Southampton.
Kate is a Member of the Institute of Place Management and UK ADEPT, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing, a Member of the Institute of Economic Development and Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. Kate has led and managed major capital, and strategic economic and community partnerships and HRA business plans for over 20 years.
Kate is passionate about placemaking, with an award-winning track record of working with Councillors, residents, communities and businesses across the UK. Kate has held a range of non-executive roles with UK companies, regional organisations and government bodies.

Hellen Stirling-Baker

Founder - Small Stuff UK

Since founding Small Stuff in 2016, Hellen Stirling-Baker FRSA has shared her experiences as the owner of a successful sustainable business to both local and national media and at conferences and panels. In addition to the practical, hands-on experience Hellen has developed through her work at Small Stuff, she is an alumni of The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and is the sustainability lead on the Board of Directors for The British Independent Retail Association, supporting internal and external strategies to a community of almost 4000 members.
Hellen is now working on supporting independent businesses as a consultant specialising in green strategies.
